224.     Thomas Piety Sr. was born Dec 1762 in Fort Pitt PA. He died 17 May 1835 in Bruceville, Knox Co. IN and was buried in Mariah Creek Christian Church Cemetery, Knox Co., IN. Thomas married Mary F. Duncan on  (Bond date 26 Jul 1792) in the house of James Duncan, Mary’s father, in Nelson Co, KY.  They were married by Joshua Carman.  Note:  Mary’s court declaration says they were married 07 Aug 1792, although the Internet says the marriage certificate (which I have not seen) records their wedding on 06 Aug 1792.

225.     Mary F. Duncan "Polly" was born 25 Nov 1774 in MD. She died 09 Jun 1855 in Oaktown, Widner Twp., Knox Co. IN and was buried in Mariah Creek Christian Church Cemetery, Knox Co., IN.

 

Resided in Shelbyville KY, Sullivan Co. IN, 1814 Knox Co. IN.

 

August 12, 1844, Mary made a declaration in open court of Knox County IN before James Thorn, Esq., Judge of Probate Court, as a widow of Thomas Piety. Made declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by Acts of Congress in 1838,43,44 granting and continuing pension to certain widows. Thomas had been granted a pension for services and a wound received in St.Clair's Defeat.

 

She declared that "her maiden name was Mary (usually called Polly) Duncan, a daughter of James Duncan who in her youth removed from the state of Maryland to the county of Nelson state of Kentucky, where she was married in her father's house to Thomas Piety aforesaid, by the Rev. Joshua Carman, a creditable Baptist preacher on the Seventh day of August One Thousand Seven Hundred and Nine‑two (1792). That her late husband said Thomas Piety died on the 17th day of May 1835, and that she has not in turn married but remains a widow, and still resides in Knox County.

1840 Census for Mary (Duncan) Piety is undiscovered.  There is no appropriately aged female with the Piety children in Knox or Vigo Counties in IN.
