Lawshe was the congregation in Adams County attended by the Spurgeon, Rodgers, Eakins, Sprinkle, Jones and Nesbit families before some of their families moved to Grant County IN.

Normal church of Christ, Normal (f.k.a. Slash), Grant Co., IN - This congregation was the site of worship for the Hoggatt, Nesbitt, Smith and Sprinkle families.  The church building has a cemetery in the back yard.  Dean Hoggatt also recalls the outhouse (now gone).

Interior views on 22 Aug 2004 of the Normal church of Christ 1  2  3  4  There was a wood furnace near the left-center of the auditorium, now removed.  The old wooden benches still in use at the church building may be original.  The church building is located west of the house on the corner.  The corner house was the residence of George A. and Julia (Rogers) Sprinkle.  The house to the west of the church building was the residence of the Pratt family.  Maxine Pratt married Charles Lyndell Hoggatt (oldest son of Wilbur and Esta Hoggatt) on 22 May  1929 in Grant Co. IN.  Charles Hoggatt was an elder at the Donmoyer Avenue church of Christ in South Bend at the time of his death.

Prairie Creek church of Christ, Prairie Creek (Middleton), Vigo Co., IN - Land for the town of Prairie Creek was donated by James D. Piety, including land for the church building, which also served as the town's school.

Elmwood church of Christ, Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co., IN - Elmwood was attended by Aubrey Dean and Thelma Mae (Campbell) Hoggatt as they attended Purdue University and when they were married.

Calvert & Caroline church of Christ, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., IN - This is the first congregation in South Bend.  The congregation began meeting in 1923 in the South Bend home of Zadoc John and Ora Frances (Watson) Piety.  Baptisms were performed in the St. Joseph River (Thelma Hoggatt), at the Mentone IN church of Christ (Roy Campbell), or some other area congretation.

Charles Lyndell Hoggatt, oldest son of Wilbur and Esta Hoggatt, was an elder at the Donmoyer Avenue church of Christ in South Bend at the time of his death on 18 Sep 1973.
